John L. Flavin named president of Advanced Life
Sciences
Woodridge, Ill, August 3, 2004 - John L. Flavin has assumed
the role of president of Advanced Life Sciences (ALS) of Woodridge,
IL. He joined ALS in June 2002 as chief financial officer and
was elected to its Board of Directors in 2003.

doing at Advanced Life Sciences,” said Flavin. “The
drugs we are developing in the areas of infectious disease,
oncology and inflammation are very promising and are targeted
to meet
significant unmet medical needs.”
Flavin is recognized for his experience in company building,
public and private financing initiatives, and mergers and acquisitions.
He is the former chief operating officer and director of Woodridge-based
MediChem Life Sciences, Inc. where he was responsible for the
chemistry-based drug discovery company’s business and
scientific operations.
Flavin helped lead each of MediChem’s capital financings
and was responsible for establishing and growing many of the
key collaborations with MediChem’s blue-chip pharmaceutical
and biotechnology partners. He also served as chief executive
officer of MediChem’s protein engineering and proteomics
subsidiaries, Emerald BioStructures, ThermoGen and AXAS.
Flavin holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration
from Marquette University in Milwaukee and an Masters in Business
Administration from Lewis University in Romeoville, IL.
