Advanced Life Sciences Announces Appointment of Financial Executive
to Board of Directors

Woodridge, Ill, June 25, 2001 - Advanced Life Sciences, Inc. announced today the appointment of Kathryn Burrer Hyer, JD, to its Board of Directors. Ms. Hyer is an accomplished businesswoman and senior financial executive whose most recent position was Chief Financial Officer of Quark Biotech, Inc. in Chicago, Illinois.

Ms. Hyer graduated Magna Cum Laude from Aquinas College, Grand Rapids, Michigan and received a law degree from the Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University. Prior to her position at Quark Biotech, Ms. Hyer was Managing Director, Health Care Group at Everen Securities, Inc., Chicago, Illinois where she identified financing, strategic partnerships and acquisition opportunities. She also managed initial public offerings and acted as sole agent in private placements. In just two years she generated over $10 million in fees. Ms. Hyer was also Director of Finance for the City of Cleveland, Ohio where she managed a $1 billion budget in the Office of Budget & Management.
