Advanced Life Sciences Adds Three New Members to Its Scientific Advisory Board

Woodridge, Ill, May 30, 2001 - Advanced Life Sciences, Inc. announces the addition of three new members to its Scientific Advisory Board with the appointments of Gordon R. Bernard, MD, Robert W. Buckheit, Jr., MD, and Tapas K. Das Gupta, MD, Ph.D.

Dr. Bernard is Chief of Pulmonary Service and Professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He is also Medical Director for the Institutional Review Board. Dr. Bernard received his Medical Degree from Louisiana State University. He is considered a leader in the area of cardiopulmonary medicine and sepsis, and chairs the Steering Committee for NHLBI ARDS Clinical Trials Network and the International Sepsis Forum. He serves on the editorial boards of Clinical Intensive Care, Journal of Critical Care and Sepsis.

Dr. Buckheit is Director of the Microbiology Research Department at Southern Research Institute. His Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology is from Duke University; he has also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in virology, and microbiology at the University of North Carolina. Dr. Buckheit has received numerous honors and awards in the areas of cancer and viral research.

Dr. Das Gupta is the Head, Department of Surgical Oncology at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Calcutta and his Ph.D. from London University. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is Chairman of the FDA Advisory Committee on General and Plastic Surgery, Section of Surgical and Rehabilitation Devices Panel. Dr. Das Gupta has authored over 225 publications.
